T is for Teeth

To help us with our T is for Teeth theme, we had a special guest visitor: Dr. Daniel Perry. The kids really enjoyed having a REAL dentist talk to them about proper care for their teeth and they were a great audience!

(yes, there are a few more kids then usual--Dr. Dan's kids were visiting as well)

We had fun learning about how what we eat affects our teeth. Dr. Dan gave each child various pictures or items and they had to decide if it was good for your teeth (goes with the happy tooth on the left) or bad for your teeth (the sad tooth with decay spots on the right).

We also learned about how to take care of our teeth.  We even practiced flossing by using string (floss) and a partners fingers (teeth)

On our Tiger themed day,

the class just couldn't get enough of this book:

Tiger Can't Sleep

Written by: S.J. Fore

Illustrated by R. W. Alley

This fun story is about a little boy who can't sleep because there is a tiger in his closet. Not a scary tiger, but a noisy one--crunching potato chips, playing the tuba and even doing cartwheels. Will this silly tiger finally quiet down and let a very tired boy sleep? Recommended for preschool-2nd grade.

T is for Turtle

In our Letter Bag we found lots of

interesting things that

start with the letter T . . .

Terrific Turtle Treats . . .

Directions:

Make a sugar cookie recipe and

use food coloring to color dough green.

(Hint: You'll have the most success if you color it BEFORE you add the flour!)

Have children roll dough into balls,

put on cookie sheet

and make criss-crossing patterns

by pushing down on the dough with the back of a fork.

Decorate to look like a turtle. We used a whole almond for the head

and chocolate chips or almond slices for the feet and tail.

Bake and enjoy!

We used our turtle theme day to explore the different kinds of homes animals live in. Also, turtles are reptiles and, like other reptiles, are cold-blooded so the inside of their body is the same temperature as the air around them. If they get too cold or too hot they will die. People and other mammals, like our pets, on the other hand, are warm blooded. What kinds of things do our bodies do when we get cold to help us warm up or cool down when we are too hot?
